about the company
Our client operates within the maritime industry and is one of the leading ports across the globe. They have operations in more than 30 terminals across the world. They are looking for a Data Scientist for their new Centre of Excellence arm to serve business needs.

about the role
In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with BUs to drive data projects based on business needs
  • Provide the necessary structure, governance, competency and resources on the use of data
  • Use data as a driver of change within the company, disrupting current systems and processes, transforming the way things are done through algorithms, multi location aggregation of data
  • Use data to better anticipate and forecast customers’ needs and provide services in a more efficient and effective manner
  • Perform data mining using state-of-the-art methods and extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
  • Work and collaborate with data analytics team, create value through developing data analytics solutions that supports global objectives
  • Prototype/POC in new areas of data analytics solution and recommend the best fit
  • solution as per business requirements

skills and experience required

  • More than 4 years of experience as a data scientist or similar roles
  • A degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Management, Engineering and /or Masters in Business Analytics or a related field
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object oriented design and patterns
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-means, k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, HMM, Neural nets, Deep learning etc
  • Hands on experience with R, python or similar statistical programming languages
  • Experience building highly scalable solutions using large data sets
  • Effective communicator who can work with stakeholders to define requirements and refine data analytics use cases
