  • Accountable for designing, implementing, monitoring a front-to-back system to ensure and promote improvement in food safety management for all fresh, packaged food and ready to eat categories
  • Ensures that all banners comply with local regulation requirements and constantly adopts world class practices to improve its performance in food safety to protect customers and the brands. Act as Singapore’s representative in working with government bodies to promote food safety

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a QA & Food Safety team for corporate brand product (applicable retail food products) in order to make sure process and products comply with local regulation, following DFI corporate brand guidance and implement a continuous improvement program for products and suppliers.
  • Lead a team of food safety specialist to adopt best practices in order to drive improvement in food safety management for all fresh, ready to eat, and packaged food categories across all banners.
  • Leadership of all food safety specialists and third party service providers, ensuring correct level of oversight is given to store / distribution centre food safety and quality assurance operations
  • Lead the implementing food safety program to reviewing and monitoring of all primary and secondary manufacturers / producers of all locally procured products, including pre-selection, testing, audit and training.
  • Reviews and engages suitable Third Party service providers to support local market programs in: Supplier Audits, Regulatory Compliance, training and In-store Fresh Food quality control operations and DC’s
  • Improves coordination & communication with local government on managing changes to current food safety ordinance sponsored by various government bodies
  • Proactively participates in food safety forums / associations to gain insight on best practices and introduces such practices to relevant business units in Indonesia
  • Responsible for building Cambodia’s food safety and local regulatory compliance function and team to world class level by attracting and retaining top talent, aligning Cambodia’s system and practices to the best in class, yet ensuring compliance to local regulations.
  • Acts as an internal consultant / working group participant to guide other group companies towards world class standards for food safety and quality assurance, regulatory compliance management
  • Develops food safety and quality KPI’s and gains agreement from senior and management on the KPI’s and their annual targets Manages the collection, analysis and communication of management information on the performance of the company against the KPI’s to monitor and drive improvement in food safety management, legal compliance and technical capability.
  • Review 3rd party contract & payment for Testing, Sensory, Audit, promoting and Training program both for Corporate Brand Quality Assurance and for Food Safety.

Non Financial:

  • Provide overall Food Safety and Regulatory strategic direction complimentary to the company objectives and targets.
  • Re-structure current ‘Fresh’ Quality Management System to strengthen the position of the business unit in terms of Food Safety.
  • Research and provide recommendations of improvements to both the hard and software of the company in anticipation of and preparation for a more complicated food safety environment and stringent regulations moving forward.
  • Keep abreast of latest media coverage / government announcements with regards to food safety related incidents / crisis, in order to be well equipped to provide quick and well thought out responses and direction in order to protect brand integrity.
  • Work with various related Government Agencies to proactively influence the law making process and gain maximum protection for products sold under the DFI banners across Cambodia
  • Manages a system of KPI’s and related reporting processes to measure progress and drive improvements


  • Degree in Food Science, or Science related subject
  • Minimum 15 years commercial experience in food safety and regulatory affairs, of which 5 years
  • Must be in a managerial role / leadership role
  • Solid experience coordinating and working with legislative and government bodies that regulate food safety standards and requirements
  • Proficient in written and spoken English. Ideally, ability to converse in mandarin would be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge in food science. Ideally, with experience in the following Fresh food categories: Meat, Seafood, Poultry, Produce, Dairy, Delicatessen (Fully Cooked Products), Home Meal Replacement – or Ready to Eat categories such takeaway or ‘grab and go’ counters
  • Conversant with food safety legislation in Cambodia
  • Ability to see the big picture, link the department’s goals to the priorities of the business key stakeholders.
  • Adapt at representing the company when interfacing with the media. Able to establish positive rapport with the media.
  • Ability to develop and communicate management information to drive improvements on a regional scale
