Our client is an international reputable main contractor with great presence in the area of Data Centres, Healthcare, Education, Office and other projects. Currently they seek a highly experienced Senior Operations Manager with deep hands-on construction experience to lead a team of 200 professional staff and daily operations of a multi-billion data center project located in Singapore.
Reporting to and working in collaboration with Company’s Project Director, the candidate will be accountable for implementing and overseeing the construction execution strategy. The candidate will work hand in hand with various project delivery teams to ensure they work efficiently and are providing consistent results.
The candidate must be a technically experienced individual possessing significant hands-on large project construction experience as well as experience leading large teams across concurrent workflows. The candidate must possess very strong communication skills, EQ skills, leadership skills, and possess a strong ability to influence other non-direct reports. A strong ability to “lead up” is required. Prior experience working in Singapore and the APAC Region for a major international construction contractor is a prerequisite.
Technical construction experience with hyperscale data center projects, oil and gas projects, or similar complex projects along with strong financial acumen, cost control understanding, and negotiating skills are a prerequisite.
A critical element of this position will be the candidate’s ability to integrate into the client’s and Company’s team and earn their respect and trust quickly. The candidate must be able to successfully assess leadership, behavioural, personality and management styles of Company’s team, the client’s team, the AE team and interact with them successfully.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
... - Manage a 200-person construction team for Company’s Data Center project, and other upcoming projects/phases.
- Refine and implementing the construction execution plan for projects in tandem with Company’s Project Director.
- Clearly understand Company’s responsibilities and the client’s internal commitments/needs along with needs of external entities such as BCA/MOM/JTC, etc.
- Possess the ability to successfully embrace frequent change from the client and work with direct reports to modify ongoing construction execution strategies such that there is no or minimal impact to project schedule milestones.
- Work closely with direct reports to further refine the execution strategy and optimize sub contractors’ scopes and sequences of work to achieve milestones.
- Collaborate with sub-contractors to maximize efficiency of their operations and assist through your direct reports to take down obstacles on the construction stie so the subcontractors are successful.
- Develop a strong bond and reciprocal level of trust and respect with your direct reports and others on the company and client’s team you interface with daily.
- Work closely with the HSE team to ensure works are planned and managed safely.
- Ensure efficient execution of the construction works at site.
- Work with Company’s Planning leader to ensure the project program is managed per the program management plan.
- Work with project managers, package managers, construction managers, and project engineers to promote collaboration between the functional teams.
- Manage and execute other duties and responsibilities from time to time that are assigned by the Project Director
- Monitor progress and quality assurance with project trade partners, be prepared to deliver updates directly to the client.
- Organize and lead meetings with key trade partner leadership to identify project risks, develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Actively participate in the change management process, fostering timely approval and execution of Variation Orders. Provide a strategic approach to facilitating a successful expedited review and approval process with the client.
- Work closely with the Project Director to develop, manage, and maintain the project risk register including development of Risk Action Plans to manage risks and identify opportunities to better cost and schedule.
- Monitor and manage client relationship. This will include coordinating correspondence between multiple stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management / Engineering / Architecture or equivalent.
- Five years of experience successfully managing construction projects more than S$300 million.
- Good track record of successfully delivering a project to completion.
- Experience building data centers or other technically complex facilities in Singapore or APAC region.
- Solid knowledge of Singapore Construction Safety and possess CSCPM Certification is preferred.
- Experience managing large and diverse teams of more than 100 employees.
- Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.
- Have excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
