about the job
- Develop transportation strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize operations and ensure timely delivery of goods or services. Coordinate with various departments, such as logistics, procurement, and customer service, to align transportation activities with organizational goals
- Determine the most efficient and cost-effective routes for transporting goods.
- Analyze transportation data, including traffic patterns, fuel costs, and delivery schedules, to optimize routes and minimize transportation costs and time
- Manage the organization's fleet of vehicles, including trucks. Ensure proper maintenance and repair of vehicles, monitor fuel consumption, and manage vehicle inspections and registrations.
- Optimize the utilization of vehicles and equipment to maximize efficiency.
- Collaborate with transportation service providers, such as carriers, freight forwarders, or couriers, to negotiate contracts, ensure compliance with service level agreements, and resolve any issues or disputes.
- Evaluate vendor performance and make recommendations for improvement or changes
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and safety standards. Stay updated onrelevant laws and regulations related to transportation, such as driver hours of service, vehicle weight limits, or hazardous material handling.
- Implement safety programs and practices to minimize accidents or incidents
- Track and analyse transportation metrics, such as on-time delivery, transportation costs, or customer satisfaction.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to optimize performance and meet key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Lead and supervise a team of transportation professionals, including operations executives, drivers, or logistics coordinators.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure effective team performance.
- Foster a positive work environment and resolve any personnel issues that may arise
skills & experience required
To be successful in this position, you must have the ability to demonstrate or possess:
- Degree in Logistics/Business
- Minimum 8 years of experience with proven track record in an transportation and operations management
