Singapore has emerged as a prime location in the Asia-Pacific region for data centres, which have seen a surge despite a slowdown in the global economy and Singapore property market.
The Singapore Data Centre Supply Report by Structure Research found that Singapore’s growth, political stability and business friendliness made it a preferred location for cloud demand and cloud providers. The entire colocation market in Singapore is slated to grow to an impressive S$1.56 billion by 2020.
The Singapore Government has recognised the importance of the sector and is looking to establish, through the Infocomm Development Authority, Economic Development Board and JTC Corporation, a Data Centre Park in Jurong in an effort to engage multinational corporations.
The proliferation of data centres in Singapore has led to a strong demand for the following talent.
The data centre facilities manager would provide daily oversight and leadership of the facility, including maintenance, repair, installation and operation of the facility. This can cover electrical and mechanical systems, capacity planning and project management.
Salary range: S$72,000 to S$96,000 per annum, excluding bonuses
Operations managers must lead multi-platform data centre operations teams to successfully meet financial, strategic and operational objectives. With the highly technical nature of the role, managers with excellent leadership skills who are able to handle large teams effectively are highly in demand.
Salary range: S$84,000 to S$108,000 per annum, excluding bonuses
