about the job
This individual contributor position is focused on executing underwriting strategies to expand the company's Marine insurance portfolio across Singapore and North Asia. Working within established delegated underwriting authorities, you will evaluate, price, and structure Marine insurance risks while assisting in driving growth across diverse distribution channels.
• Technical Underwriting: Reviewing and underwriting new and renewal Marine risks, adhering to pricing guidelines and delegated authority limits to maintain portfolio profitability.
• Business Development: Assisting in regional market penetration, analyzing territory and distribution channels, and participating in account reviews to prioritize profitable growth opportunities.
• Intermediary Management: Managing relationships with brokers and agents, responding to submissions, delivering timely quotations, and executing Know-Your-Customer (KYC) screening compliance.
• Operational Governance: Coordinating policy documentation issuance, monitoring claims tracking activities, reviewing facultative reinsurance requirements, and preparing monthly business analytics reports.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating across internal divisions—including Claims, Finance, Actuarial, and Distribution—to facilitate cross-selling initiatives and risk management alignment.

You will report directly to the Director, North Asia Market within the Marine underwriting division. Operating as an individual contributor without direct reports, you will work alongside experienced technical underwriters and regional distribution partners in a structured team environment.
skills and experience required
Requirements for the role include the following qualifications and professional background:
• Education: A Degree or Diploma in Insurance, Maritime, or Business, alongside professional certifications such as ACII, ANZIIF, or CGI.
• Underwriting Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in Marine insurance underwriting, incorporating technical risk assessment and direct intermediary engagement.
• Domain Knowledge: Knowledge of Marine insurance operations, underwriting procedures, product wordings, risk evaluation practices, and industry regulatory frameworks.
• Software Proficiency: Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Core Competencies: Planning, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and detail-oriented execution capabilities.
