about the job
As the Senior Technical Underwriting Director for the region, you will be instrumental in steering the underwriting strategy, governance, and portfolio management across Asia. You will oversee technical underwriting standards for a diverse portfolio of Property, Casualty, and Specialty lines. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing regional underwriting frameworks, guidelines, and pricing strategies to ensure sustained profitability and risk control.
- Conducting comprehensive portfolio reviews and audits to ensure compliance with global standards and regulatory requirements.
- Acting as the ultimate technical authority and referral point for complex, high-value, or specialized regional risks.
- Collaborating with distribution and product teams to innovate and tailor specialty commercial insurance products that meet the evolving needs of the Asian market.
- Driving data-driven underwriting decisions through advanced analytics and market intelligence.
about the manager/team
You will report directly to the CEO and function as a key strategic partner to the broader Asia executive team. This is a highly visible leadership role where you will work closely with a high-performing team of market-leading underwriters, actuaries, risk managers, and claims professionals. You will be empowered to lead by example, mentoring senior underwriters across different country desks and fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and robust risk management.
skills and experience required
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline. Advanced industry qualifications (such as ACII, CPCU, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 12 to 15 years of robust technical underwriting experience within the Property, Casualty, or Specialty insurance sectors, with significant exposure to the Asia Pacific markets.
- Proven track record in portfolio management, underwriting governance, and establishing regional pricing guidelines for commercial lines.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to assess complex commercial risks and drive profitable underwriting strategies.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of influencing executive leadership, key broker partners, and regional underwriting teams.
- A strategic thinker with a deep understanding of regional regulatory landscapes and market dynamics.
