about the job
As the Deputy Head, the successful candidate will assist in managing underwriting functions and expanding market share for Marine products across Singapore and the region. Responsibilities include the technical underwriting of new and renewal Marine Hull & Liability business of higher complexity, operating within established delegated authority levels.
Daily duties will involve developing and enhancing pricing models, maintaining a profitable book of business, and conducting technical portfolio management and remediation. The role also drives business development by growing new and existing accounts, rolling out new products, and ensuring high-quality service standards. Additionally, the successful applicant will oversee compliance, perform sanction and KYC checks, and collaborate cross-functionally to promote cross-selling initiatives.

Reporting to the Head of the division, the incoming Deputy Head will work closely with Underwriting Team Leaders and lead a dedicated underwriting team. Regular duties include evaluating team performance, providing 4-eyes evaluation, and conducting underwriting audits. skills and experience required
- Minimum 8 years of experience in Marine insurance underwriting with direct intermediary engagement and technical underwriting.
- ACII, ANZIIF, or a Degree/Diploma in Insurance; alternatively, a Degree/Diploma in Business or Maritime with CGI.
- Strong knowledge of Marine insurance operations, underwriting procedures, and a deep understanding of all Marine classes, products, and policy wordings.
- In-depth understanding of risk assessment, maritime laws, and legislation relating to the marine insurance industry.
- Proven experience leading a team with excellent strategic, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong business acumen, detailed-oriented mindset, and an innate customer service attitude.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the drive to work well under pressure.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
