As Media and Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of media, external communications, and public relations for the organization's regional major event portfolio. You will drive media exposure and build a positive public profile for the company’s events and, most importantly, for the commercial partners associated with them. This position requires a strategic thinker who can execute flawless media campaigns and act as the trusted intermediary between the company, governing bodies, and the press.
- Craft, develop, and distribute high-impact press materials, including announcements, reports, strategic feature stories, and media kits, ensuring consistent messaging and narrative across all public distribution channels.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with members of the media, including journalists, editors, and industry publications, and serve as the dedicated primary point of contact for all event-related media inquiries, providing timely responses.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and monitor the distribution of rights-owned photos and video assets used by the media.
- Provide ongoing support to the regional communications function for cross-functional engagement with the company's Global Communications team on event content and other areas as required.
- Partner with sports governing bodies, local member associations, and clubs to coordinate media activities, support local coverage, and facilitate promotional opportunities for teams and players.
- Track, measure, and analyze the effectiveness of all media relations initiatives, delivering regular performance reports with actionable insights and recommendations for process improvement.
- Oversee the event's digital newsroom/media center and its subscriber database, guaranteeing that all information and assets are consistently updated and accessible to press.
- Manage the delivery of contractual requirements for official media partners, ensuring alignment with commercial and event objectives.
- Collaborate with internal event operations, client services, and digital marketing teams to integrate public relations activities into broader event marketing and social media campaigns.
- Support the planning and seamless execution of press conferences and media events, including preparing content, core messaging, and on-site support for visual content creation in collaboration with designers, photographers, and videographers.
skills and experience required
- Proven track record in media relations, public relations, or corporate communications, preferably within a large-scale event, federation, or sports organization setting.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Superior ability to craft error-free, persuasive, and channel-specific content for both traditional and digital distribution.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with media members and key external stakeholders.
- Proficient in monitoring, tracking, and analyzing performance to provide actionable insights and stay ahead of industry trends.
- High comfort level engaging with diverse internal departments and senior external partners.
