about the job
This is a strategic downstream role focused on the operational performance of high-sensitivity, chilled categories. Rather than a traditional lab-based QA position, you will be the Technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) who ensures that high-value proteins maintain peak integrity from the point of receipt to the retail shelf.
- Operational Excellence: Define and implement SOPs for the handling, storage, and display of chilled products to maximize shelf-life and reduce shrinkage/waste.
- Technical Bridge: Act as the technical advisor to Category Managers and Store Operations to ensure product specifications meet the highest quality and safety standards.
- Cold Chain Integrity: Monitor and optimize the end-to-end cold chain, identifying temperature abuse points and implementing corrective actions.
- Store Empowerment: Support and train retail store teams on merchandising standards, stock rotation, and waste control metrics.
- Data-Driven Improvement: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as spoilage rates, customer complaints, and audit scores to drive continuous improvement pilots.
about the manager/team
This role reports to the Group Category Head. The leadership team is looking for someone who understands the microbiology of the product but also understands the fast-paced nature of retail stores. You will have the autonomy to drive change in a team that values data-backed decisions and operational agility.
skills and experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Technology, or a related technical field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a technical, QA, or operations role within the fresh food/protein industry (Retail, Food Processing, Food Manufacturing).
- Deep understanding of the biological and technical requirements for chilled proteins (shelf-life extension, temperature control, and microbiology).
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on Retail Performance metrics like waste reduction and inventory optimization.
- Proven ability to influence and train cross-functional teams, particularly in a retail store or warehouse environment.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with retail inventory platforms (e.g., SAP or Oracle) is highly preferred.
